Take Mr. D for example, his first invention idea was not as successful as he would have liked, because he was beat to the marketplace by a larger corporation.<\/p>\n<p>Well, it turns out that these \u201cfailed\u201d inventions are common with many of history\u2019s famous inventors.<\/p>\n<p>Today, we\u2019ve found some not-so-great inventions from some of the most famous, most successful inventors of all time. Whether these ideas were just ahead of their time or simply just didn\u2019t work, they are definitely worth a second look!<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"photo alignleft wp-image-6512 size-full\" style=\"margin-right: 10px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.davison.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Edisons-Doll.bmp\" alt=\"Famous Inventors\" width=\"166\" height=\"237\" \/>Thomas Edison\u2019s Talking Doll<\/strong> \u2013 This famous inventor had over 2,000 patents to his name before he died, so it is not hard to believe that one of his creations just didn\u2019t quite work. Perhaps a predecessor to today\u2019s talking dolls, Edison tried to combine his very successful phonograph with a children\u2019s doll, in hopes that little girls everywhere could communicate with their dolls during playtime. Unfortunately, the contraption had a few fatal flaws and it cost the equivalent of $240-$600, which was a bit pricey for Edison\u2019s day.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-6513 photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.davison.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Water-Walking-Shoes-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"Unusual Inventions\" width=\"240\" height=\"179\" \/>Leonardo da Vinci\u2019s Water-Walking Shoes<\/strong> \u2013 Famed artist and inventor Leonard da Vinci certainly had a creative flair that didn\u2019t stop with a few paint strokes. In fact, da Vinci tried to solve a problem that we\u2019ve still not touched \u2013 walking on water! His inflated shoes resembled water skis, but were nearly impossible to balance and move in!<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6511 photo\" style=\"margin-right: 10px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.davison.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Virtual-Boy.bmp\" alt=\"Creative Technology\" width=\"193\" height=\"245\" \/>Gunpei Yokoi\u2019s Virtual Boy<\/strong> \u2013 Thanks to Yokoi, every \u201990s child can lovingly remember his or her Nintendo Game Boy. What they may not remember is Yokoi\u2019s Virtual Boy, a game system, with 3D graphics, that users were supposed to strap to their faces in order to play! The rumor is that Yokoi\u2019s failed invention was the reason the former Nintendo genius left the company.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6514 photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.davison.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Mini-TV.bmp\" alt=\"Innovation\" \/>Sir Clive Sinclair\u2019s Miniature TV<\/strong> \u2013 Among Sinclair\u2019s electronic pocket calculator and fold-up bicycle was also his \u201cpocket television,\u201d a brick-sized portable TV. Although it was a genius thought, the mini TV\u2019s screen was tiny, reception wasn\u2019t great and it didn\u2019t fit in most pockets!<\/p>\n<p>Although they may have found failure on their pathway to success, it was the \u201cno quit\u201d attitude of these great inventors that brought us many, very valuable inventions.
